45% of McLean is green, there are 25 streams and rivers that cross our neighborthood and they are home to hundreds of species of fauna and plants. We have Foxes, Ducks, Geese, Coyotes, Eagles, Falcons, Owls, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Humingbirds, Woodpeckers, Snakes, Turtles, Salamanders, Lizards, Frogs, Toads, Racoons and Deer just to name a few.
Their environment is under stress for all the construction and urbanization, Washington's urban sprawl is eating away our nature so we must take care of the diminishing natural areas we have left.
A visit to different parks of McLean revealed a sad truth, visitors from other areas come to enjoy our natural resources, leaving behind a trail of garbage. It's time to take action if we want to leave a clean world for future generations! Let's lead by example and start with Cleaning McLean, our beloved neighborhood and community.
We must create conscience, visitors from other areas are welcome to our parks but they must respect them and clean up after their mess. They must take all their trash and why not? Contribute by picking another one they spot. It's a rather small price to pay for the use of the beauty of our natural resources.
